After stumbing upon the aptly named Hundredpushups.com, and deeming the ability to knock out one hundred push-ups a worthy one, I decided to give the program a try.
There is some information as to why push-ups are good, how one should do them properly, etc. But I skipped all that and started with the mandatory max push up test. After managing 45 high-quality push-ups (FYI crappy ones don't count), I moved on to the next part of the program.
My 45 push-ups put me at "Rank 4" which means that I start at "Week 3" of the program. This isn't the last max push-up test that I will do, as re-testing determines whether or not I progress to the next week. Failure to reach a sufficient number of reps means that I might have to hang out at any given week for a while, but this doesn't mean that I will have to do the same workouts over again. Each week is broken down (again by your max number of push-ups) into three categories, so there is variety within the week itself.
I jotted down the three weekly workouts in my planner (it is recommended that I take a few days off after the max push up test), so I will provide an update on my failure/success next week. And, to add some impetus/accountability to my actions, the goal of 100 push-ups is scheduled to be reached by October 28th.
BTW, there is also a Fiftypullups.com program that I'll be following it in conjunction with hundredpushups.com. Since its protocol of testing, re-testing, week assignments, etc. is similar to hundredpushups.com and, in the interest of preserving your...interest, all I'm going to say is that I am got 15 quality pull-ups during the initial test and should be able to knock out 50 by December 12th.
