I started the Orlando Gym Rat blog in July 2009 soon after moving to (you guessed it) Orlando Florida. My wife and I came all the way from Gainesville Florida (a good two hour drive) on the promise of a job from a now defunct company. Actually, the company became defunct just a few weeks after they hired me, which gave me just enough time to quit my Personal Training job in Gainesville, find a place in Orlando, and to displace my wife and cat.
The cat immediately ran away, the job never happened, and my wife and I decided, on a wing and a prayer, to stick it out until we found jobs or ran out of money. In the meantime, however, I needed a way to exert some control over the chaos, so I decided that I would "get my blog on". Sitting on the floor of our condo, I started typing. First about my own personal experiences working out around town, but then about some of the larger trends and issues revolving around fitness.
Fitness, to me, isn't just about eating the right foods and exercising on a regular basis. I decided long ago that "fitness" also encompasses such things as healthcare, the effect of technology on our lifestyles, politics, and everything else that concerns the evolving human animal. Needless to say, my ambition soon eclipsed my original intention of writing a locally-oriented exercise blog.
Two jobs, still no cat, and 100 posts later, life is good, but it's time to bring my blog up to speed. So, for posts 100 and up, I am officially unleashing "The FED (Fitness, Exercise, and Diet digested)", with a new look and a new feel for the new year. My goal is to put together an eclectic mix of news, reviews, personal experiences, and random interesting stuff that feeds the mind, body, and spirit.
But, before going forward, I wanted to take a quick look back to highlight some of my favorite posts from the past. Enjoy!
