The 3FW (FED Fun Food of the Week): Dried Papaya

Unsweetened, unsulphured dried papaya is truly a rare treat.  With a subtle sweet and smoky flavor, only one ingredient (papaya) and a chewy texture, dried papaya satisfies the old sweet-tooth without sabotaging your fitness goals.

You may have to look hard to find it though.  Only specialty health food stores and online vendors (such as "Dried Bulk Fruit" on Amazon.com) carry it.  The more common version is laced with tons of extra sugar and sulfur dioxide as a color-stabilizing agent, rendering it less than ideal for regular consumption.

One of my favorite ways to enjoy dried papaya is to take a bite of fruit and follow it up with a bite of good dark chocolate.  The mingling of the flavors elevates the experience to a whole new level that has to simply be experienced first-hand.

FED is a community supported effort and you can help by making your Amazon.com purchases of Paleo/Primal books, Vibram Five Fingers, grass-fed meat, and other items through the official LIVECAVEMAN! store.  There is no extra cost to you and you'll be doing your part to keep this blog free and full of recipes, fun foods, information, pictures, and much much more!
