|This is MY plate!|
Since the establishment of national dietary guidelines, America (and by default all the countries that are now becoming Americanized) have been breaking one record after another, and I'm not talking about home runs.
Obesity, heart disease, diabetes, cancer, and other auto-immune and chronic diseases are now accepted as "normal" and the average American simply accepts that they will eventually succumb to one or more chronic maladies during his or her lifetime.
An endless stream of "breakthroughs", "superfoods", and "diets" promise to deliver us from illness and, inevitably, somebody makes money. However, a quiet (and sometimes not so quiet) revolution is building.
People across the globe are slowly coming to the realization that "sickness" doesn't have to define our standard of living. Instead of looking to the "Biggest Loser" for guidance, we are learning from the foodways of the past, whether they be from our paleolithic ancestors or modern peoples who managed to bring their traditions of eating into the present.
Our ancestral wisdom has also found validation through science and is now moving into the mainstream under the banners of Paleo, Primal, and the Weston A. Price Foundation (among others).
To celebrate this movement to "take back" the contents of our collective dinner plate, I am putting out a request for pictures that proudly display the glorious meats, veggies, fruits, and other foods that make up the breakfasts, lunches, and dinners of people who refuse to be told what they "should" be eating (whole grains, I'm looking at you).
I will be compiling all of the pictures into a collage that will serve as a declaration of dietary independence that will be revealed in the near future.
To submit a picture, simply go to the FED - Fitness in an Evolutionary Direction Facebook page and post your pic on the wall along with the comment "This is MY plate!"
