Have you seen neighborhoodfruit.com? If there is an active community in your area it takes some of the uncertainty out of foraging.

You can also leave someone a note with your contact info if you're concerned about foraging on someone's property. Although, here in California, fruit that hangs off your property onto public property is legal to take.
