Meat and Organs From Grazing Animals - Ungulates (animals that eat grass and other forage like cows, deer, and bison) produce meat high in saturated fats (a good thing!) as well as healthy omega 3 fatty acids (when they aren't fed grain). Our ancestors hunted grazing animals stretching back into the Pleistocene, so make sure to include plenty of them on your plate.
Bacon (and Bacon Fat) - Egg's best friend, uncured pork bacon can be found at many grocery stores and specialty markets. Pastured bacon (sourced locally or from vendors such as U.S. Wellness Meats) is an even better option with a high percentage of monounsaturated fat and a reduced omega 6 fatty acid content.
Pastured Eggs - Fat and protein all rolled into a nice convenient package. Whether scrambled, hard-boiled, fried, or wrapped in sausage and bacon (yup) eggs are one of nature's most perfect foods.
"Better" Adult Beverages - Even a Caveman got his drink on from time to time (fermented fruit FTW!) so why not try to make the experience a little "better" by cutting the gluten and sulfites found in regular beer and wine.
Unsweetened Chocolate - Intense? Yes, but if you are a die hard chocoholic and you are also committed to cutting refined sugar from your diet you will get used to it and you will grow to like it.
Unsweetened Cocoa Powder - When produced by the Broma process, cocoa powder retains it's powerful antioxidants and unsweetened versions cut the sugar completely.
Coconut Milk - Cheap, delicious, AND nutritious? Yup, coconut milk is definitely one of the most comestible and versatile foodstuffs available.
Creamed Coconut - Unlike coconut oil, creamed coconut contains all the fiber and coconut solids found in whole coconut. It is delicious on it's own (think the "Paleo equivalent of eating peanut butter off of a spoon") or mixed with all sorts of foods.
Fresh Produce - Pick fruits and vegetables up on the cheap by stalking fruit stands and joining co-ops.
Red Palm Oil - Artisan Red Palm Oil sourced from Fair-Trade, Organic, and ecologically sustainable operations is a great cooking oil option due to its distinct flavor and high nutrient content.
Nuts and Seeds - While their high content of omega 6 fats, phytates, and other potentially problematic compounds prevents nuts and seeds from being considered a "free" food, they do have a place in a healthful ancestral diet. Soaking and sprouting raw nuts, avoiding brands that are roasted in canola or peanut oil, and exercising portion control keeps them in the "win" column.
